Full-service marina and resort on the Moutardier arm

Moutardier sits on the central arm of the lake, roughly ten miles southeast of Leitchfield off KY-259, inside the Moutardier recreation area. It is the busiest and most developed of the three marinas, and for a lot of buyers it is the mental image of Nolin Lake — covered slips, pontoons heading out in the morning, and a grill you can walk to from the dock.

The marina changed hands and went through a substantial renovation in 2024, and the reviews since have been notably warmer about the condition of the rental fleet and the facilities. If you have not been in a few years, it is worth another look.

Alongside the marina itself, the surrounding recreation area includes the Moutardier campground, a public day-use boat ramp with courtesy docks, and the Shady Creek hiking trail. That mix of amenities is part of why the Moutardier arm holds its value well.

What this means if you're buying nearby

  • The Moutardier arm is a strong choice if you want to be on the water within minutes of arriving, and it tends to be the easiest sell if you ever resell.
  • Deeper water and established lake communities mean waterfront here generally prices at the higher end of the lake.
  • Because there are no community docks on Nolin, proximity to Moutardier's slips and the public ramp is what makes off-water homes in this area practical for boaters.
  • The day-use ramp gets busy on summer holiday weekends. Worth visiting on a Saturday in July before you commit.

Wax Marina

Operating since 1965 and the largest slip operation on the lake, with more than 210 covered and open slips from 10 to 80 feet. The quickest approach from Louisville.

Ponderosa area, near Clarkson

Ponderosa Boat Dock

The smallest and most low-key of the three, with a loyal regular crowd and a genuine community feel. Worth a look if the busier marinas aren't what you're after.
